Armed With The Arts Peace Crane Project

Uniting the Children of the World in a Vision of Peace.
The Peace Crane Project is designed to raise awareness of the United Nations International Day of Peace and promote the concept of peace throughout the world.
Muskoka Chautauqua incorporates the Peace Crane Project through the Kaleidoscope program in the form of creative workshops for children.

Upcoming Projects

We are currently in the planning stages for projects in the 2015/2016 school year. We're excited to announce the successful Armed With The Arts project, which took place over the course of three days in September 2014.

“Armed With The Arts” @ Honey Harbour and Glen Orchard

Muskoka Chautauqua staff spent 3 fun filled days working with students at Honey Harbour and Glen Orchard Public School, introducing the Armed with the Arts project created by Sue DiCicco who is an animator for Disney. The three day exercise entailed an Origami Peace Crane folding workshop. Each student created an Origami Peace Crane and covered them with symbols and phrases of how they perceive peace. In addition, the students at Glen Orchard P.S. presented a short skit based on the story behind the Origami Peace Crane about a young Japanese girl (Sadako Sasaki) who was born 2 years before the bombing of Hiroshima.

All the peace cranes the students made were traded with a school in California.

More programs to come in the Fall of 2015.
