SUMMARY:Folk Night with Beverlie Robertson & Friends
DESCRIPTION:“Muskoka Music in the Air” – Famed Muskoka musical artists\, Mike Phillips (the Mighty Lopez)\, Po Cholly & Beverlie Robertson\n\n\n“Muskoka Music in the Air” – Famed Muskoka musical artists\, Mike Phillips (the Mighty Lopez)\, Grady Kelneck\, Po Cholly & Beverlie Robertson present a collection of songs loved by their Muskoka audiences over the years. Some songs are traditional\, some composed by themselves & their friends & some have great choruses to sing along. The evening is a celebration of the everlasting joy & comraderie that the sharing of music brings to all. Come & share the love! \nBEVERLIE ROBERTSON: \nAs a member of the trio The Chanteclairs\, Beverlie travelled widely and performed at festivals such as the Mariposa Folk Festival\, the Fredericton Jazz & Blues Festival\, and at venues from The Riverboat to Massey Hall\, Maple Leaf Gardens and the CNE Grandstand. She played on the CBC\, CTV\, BBC\, US and European TV networks. She grew up with the New Orleans and Tin Pan Alley blues played by the many jazz and blues artists who came to her parents home after gigs. Peter Gzowski called her a pioneer in Canadian music. Her latest book is “With Knowing Eyes; Canadian Women in Song”. \nMIKE (LOPEZ) PHILLIPS is a fine singer & a brilliant musician; if it has strings or keys\, Mike plays it well. He has a big baritone voice & a great way with a song. Not only does he relate well with audiences\, he entertains them\, all while personally inhabiting his songs\, whether an old time country tune\, a familiar sing along or one of his own nicely crafted songs. Raised in the “kitchen parties” of PEI\, he travelled to the streets of Vancouver\, learning how to squeeze the accordion\, moved to Toronto singing and picking guitar & playing bass with the jugband Jughead\, which wrote & recorded the “Hockey Song” in ‘93 & was awarded a gold record. Performing on the accordion\, banjo ukelele\, 6 & 12 string guitar\, & stand-up bass\, Lopez continues to delight audiences with his eclectic mix of “roots” music\, classic & original. \nPO CHOLLY has been an itinerant bluesman for 50 years\, traveling the globe\, hosting concerts and conducting workshops. He is well-known for his blues harp styles\, slide guitar and traditional blues. He has played with the Gypsy Kings in France\, tango bands in Argentina\, reggae players in Jamaica\, and flamenco dancers in Spain\, where his passion for the blues has always erased national and political borders and brought strange bedfellows together to share the music. \nGRADY KELNECK is a Toronto-based Canadian folk-roots singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist known for his rich vocals and honest\, heartfelt storytelling. Raised in a musical family\, he’s performed since childhood and has toured across Canada\, sharing stages with artists like Hot Hot Heat and The Dears. Grady was a founding member of indie-rock band The Parkas and won the Steve’s Music Emerging Artist Award. His acclaimed solo album Take My Hand showcases his blend of folk\, country\, and roots influences inspired by Townes Van Zandt and John Prine. Grady continues to write\, record\, and perform\, championing Canada’s vibrant roots music scene. \nDining in Windermere during the Festival? \nEnjoy a 10% discount on all food and non-alcoholic beverages from Windermere House Pub during the festival! SUMMARY:Audrey Jolly at the Theatre in the Woods
DESCRIPTION:Through theatre & the written word this performance captures the passion that fuels us as writers and explores the challenges we face.\n\n\nThrough theatre & the written word this performance captures the passion that fuels us as writers and explores the challenges we face while we engage with our literary Muse. We have a multitude of inner selves what we operate from. The creative self often has a life of its own not necessarily related to or sympathetic towards other more practical parts of the self. In theatre we call the practical self our ‘chop wood/fetch water self’. She is the one that remembers to pick up the milk at the end of the day after an altered reality adventure through the infinite world of our imagination where creativity lives and thrives. Our need for exercise\, food and outer relationships take a back seat when the creative muse takes over. This may present certain dilemmas for us to grapple with in our day-to-day lives. \nWe begin with a physical theatre piece that depicts the challenges of these inner parts followed by a story entitled ‘Write Now’ which describes this process through writing. The audience is invited to explore their own creative process\, what fuels it and what challenges it. This is done through writing\, sharing\, and questions. A brief discussion of how I got to this moment in my own evolution as artist\, teacher and psychotherapist will be shared. My hope is that you tap into your own unique selves\, your curiosity and courage\, recognizing there are infinite worlds and depths within you waiting for you to dip into\, capture and share with the world. \nAudrey Jolly \nRegistered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) 2015 \nAuthor of: On the Back of the Wildebeest – The Healing Power of Creativity\, 2020 \nDining in Windermere during the Festival? \nEnjoy a 10% discount on all food and non-alcoholic beverages from Windermere House Pub during the festival! SUMMARY:Caroline Marie Brooks of Good Lovelies in Concert
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy an intimate evening of music with Caroline Marie Brooks of Good Lovelies! Sponsored by Mawer Investment Management.\n\n\nCaroline Marie Brooks of Good Lovelies in Concert \nA lifelong musician\, creator and nature lover\, Caroline Marie Brooks is perhaps best-known as a member of heralded folk/pop harmony trio Good Lovelies\, though she’s also lent her singing and six-string talents to friends like Jim Bryson\, Jill Barber\, Raffi\, and Ken Yates on projects of their own. \nIn 2021\, she released her first solo outing entitled “Everything at the Same Time”\, a collection of 11 songs that ask that we live and be present in the moment and to remember that though the days are long\, the years are all too short. She is currently in the midst of recording new solo music on the heels of a very busy year with Good Lovelies. \nCaroline is also co-director of the non-profit Mag River Nature Hub and Artistic Director of the Restoration Music & Nature Festival. She is deeply curious about the connection between sense of place\, creative play and artistic expression as you will hear in her live performance\, joined by bassist Steve Zsirai and guitarist Dean Drouillard for this special show in Muskoka. \nThank you to our Musical Series Festival Sponsor\, Mawer Investment Management \nPhoto Credit: Jen Squires \nDining in Windermere during the Festival? \nEnjoy a 10% discount on all food and non-alcoholic beverages from Windermere House Pub during the festival!
